Top five position for Dave Versluis at supercross in Winschoten

Dave Versluis from the Frentec Champ Team scored a top five finish at the supercross at Winschoten last week. Versluis had a good outing in the final on Wednesday and finished in fifth position. On the second day he had some bad luck and failed to qualify himself for the main event.

On Wednesday things started well for the rider from Assendelft. In time practice he set the second fastest time in his group and this gave him confidence for the first heat. He took a bad start but after several laps he moved up to third position. He started to put the pressure on the second place rider but because of some back markers he couldn’t pass him and finished in third position. Dave won the last chance and qualified himself for the semi final. In the semi final he started the race in sixth position. During the race he moved up to fifth position which wasn’t enough to qualify himself directly for the main event. In the last chance he finished in second position which was enough to make it to final. In the final he started from the outside and managed to avoid a big crash in the first corner. He started the race in second position but when Jack Brunell passed him during the first lap he caught his rear wheel and crashed. Dave dropped back to sixth position but during the race he moved up a position and finally finished the race in fifth position.

The next day he set the fifth fastest time in his group. In his heat race he took a poor start but after several laps he worked himself up to fourth position. Soon after he passed the third place rider but in midair both riders collided with each other and because of this he couldn’t make the turn. He lost third position and finally finished the race in fourth position. In the last chance he worked himself back up from fourth to first position and qualified himself for the semi final. In the semi final he crashed in the beginning of the race. He decided to retire from the race to save his energy for the last chance. In the last chance he took a poor start and had to come back from fifth position. Versluis worked himself back up to fourth position and because the third place rider was disqualified he finished the race in third position. Despite his effort this wasn’t enough to make it to the final.

Dave’s next race is the supercross at Goes on January 14^th and 15^th.
