Dave Versluis from
Assendelft is back in the races. After the surgery on his arms
he is back on the bike now for seven weeks. On the 7th of July
he did his first race in Marum. This was a round of the Dutch
MX2 Series. He did this race to gain race rhythm.
In practice he
took his time to get used to the track. After several laps he
tried to put a fast lap together. His lap went ok and he finally
set the fifth fastest time.
When the gate dropped in the first moto his rear wheel had a lot
of spin so his start wasn’t that well. He came out of the first
corner in sixth position. In the beginning of the race he worked
himself up into third position. He managed to held on to this
position for a long time. Unfortunately he got some arm pump and
had to lower the pace. The fourth place rider closed the gap to
Dave and managed to pass him. Dave picked up the pace and was
following him. In the closing stages of the race Dave tried to
pass him back but unfortunately he couldn’t find a place to make
a pass stick and crossed the finish line in fourth position with
a difference of 0.300 of a second behind the third place rider.
In the second moto he took a better start and came out of the
first corner in first position. In the first few laps he had a
nice pace going but after three laps he lost the lead and
dropped back to second position. When the leader got a
mechanical problem, Dave took over the lead again. At that
moment he had a nice gap over himself and the second place
rider. In the closing stages of the race he hit a tyre and due
to this his gear shifter got bent. Dave wasn’t able to stand on
his foot peg like he normally stands on the bike and he had to
ride the complete track in third gear. Luckily his gap over the
second place rider was big enough so Dave managed to cross the
finish line in first position in the second moto.
With a 4-1 in the
motos he took the overall win in Marum. Last weekend he
participated in the international youth weekend in Boekel. Dave
was riding in the 250cc open class. In time practice he was
building up his speed. After a few laps he tried to put a fast
lap together and finally ended the session in third position.
In the first moto he took a good start and went into the first
corner in first position. He found his rhythm straight away and
managed to make a gap over himself and the second place rider.
In the closing stages of the race he started to make some
mistakes and due to this the second place rider started to close
down the gap to him. Dave gave everything he had and finally won
In the second moto he didn’t took a so good start because he
collided with another rider. He went into the first corner in
the back of the pack. In the beginning of the race he managed to
pass a lot of riders and after a few laps he had worked himself
up into second position. The leader was already too far gone to
overtake so Dave settled for second position.
Dave was motivated to do better in both motos on Sunday. In the
free practice session things were going fine for the rider from
Assendelft. Dave set the fastest time with a difference of two
seconds on the second place rider.
In the first moto
he took a good start and came out of the first lap in first
position. In the beginning of the race he managed to make a gap
over himself and the second place rider. During the race the gap
became bigger and he finally won the race with an advantage of
In the second and final moto of the weekend he started the race
in second position. After a few corners he took over the lead
and controlled the race from then on. During the race the
distance between him and the second place rider stayed the same.
In the closing stages of the race the second place rider came a
little bit closer but Dave kept pushing and managed to win the
With three moto wins and a second position Dave took the overall
win in Boekel.
Dave Versluis:’’The last couple of weeks went really well for
me. I managed to win the race, which is good for me. After a
difficult start of the second because of the problem with my
arms, I am happy that things are going the right way again.
Despite my bad start of the season all my sponsors stayed behind
me and I am really thankful for that. I will try to keep this
feeling for the rest of the season and I hope I can score good
This weekend Dave will participate in the fourth round of the
ADAC Youngster Cup in Tensfeld.
